Can I get the Recipe? Adding Lived Experience to Research

Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) is an approach to research used in many of the social sciences, not just mental health CBPR involves community members to acquire culturally relevant and actionable data Levels of involvement and control over the research process rest along a continuum.

Service user-research is a type of CBPR in mental health in which individuals with professional research qualifications and lived experience are project leaders or co-leaders. It explicitly uses lived experience in research work. Despite the continued development of service user-research internationally, service user research in the USA continues to encounter significant barriers.
